Why this group blog?

I'd like to call you to revive our group blog as we start our activities in the year 2012. In this group blog, using a very simple e-mail based approach, we can post our

Thoughts,
Research and teaching plans,
Rough sketch of ideas as they come to mind (we can shoot off an email),
Perhaps meeting notes, and
Any other points pertaining to NZSAC.

This is different from our wiki, which we can automate to send us notices to our mailboxes about upcoming meetings, and meeting minutes, plans of action, etc. And this is definitely separate from our website, which is for others to see what we have accomplished.

I think socialization of web, and how Internet has impacted our space of interactions has provided us a unique opportunity to at once separate and integrate our communications and channelize it. E-mail has long remained our trusted centre point of communication. Personally, over the course of the day, I receive and respond to hundreds of emails either in my university mail box, or on my gmail mail box. But a major source of my knowledge of news and updates about the world lately has been based on RSS feeds that come from professional blogs and journals that I channelize to read them on my blog reader. My favourite blog reader is an application termed "Feedly".

I think as we progress over the years as a good group doing research, teaching, and sharing ideas, a space where we can freely interact and archive our ideas and interact with the rest of the world and easily edit information or put in information as a trusted site becomes important. It is with this faith I tried to put together the blog site.

The learning curve for using a blog is flat, if you have ever used an email. You can either save this site on your bookmarks bar in the browser and open it with a click anytime you feel like posting an article or a thought. Or, send an email to get it published here (just include a cc:to the blog post address). And then configure your RSS reader (I recommend we use Google Reader or Feedly) to reading updates and be in touch.
